The Baptism of the Lord

This Sunday we celebrate the Baptism of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  As we contemplate His baptism, we are invited to reflect upon our own baptisms, in which we become members of the Body of Christ and sharers in His mission, the mission of Evangelization—to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and the salvation of souls.

It is through baptism that we become Disciples of Christ and we our nourished through the Sacraments.  From the sacraments, we receive spiritual graces to aid us in the Mission to Evangelize, to help make the Son of God known to the World.  This is an important part of being Catholic and we all have a role to play.  In this way, we can become mediators of grace as we allow God’s love to flow through us and into the hearts of others.

On Monday we will enter Ordinary Time and I would like to challenge everyone to reflect on what discipleship means to you, on the gifts God has given to you and how you can use your gifts to serve the Church through the parish of Our lady of Guadalupe.  There are many opportunities to serve: from serving in liturgical ministries, to the Stewardship Committee, Catholic Daughters, Knights of Columbus, Guadalupanas and the Finance Committee, which we will be forming in the next few weeks.  Your service also extends beyond the walls of the parish as you have the unique opportunity to bring Christ into the world through your everyday lives.
